Built in 1881, stairs with 374 steps are the longest structure of this type in Belgium. They bear the name of Vincent de Bueren, who on the night of October 29, 1468 led 600 men to attack the French army besieging the city. The attack failed, the inhabitants were murdered and the city burned.
